Ship in a Bottle: Part 2

I decided to apply the final touch to the ship: a wash. Washes are, as they sound, washed out paint – they are very thin and flow into cracks, adding color. I did not realize how dark the wash would appear against my brightly colored ship and the results were disastrous:
